Protect Yourself This Flu Season

Influenza (flu) is a contagious respiratory infection that can lead to serious illness — particularly in young children, older adults, pregnant women and people with certain health conditions.

Vaccination is the best way to reduce your risk of severe flu and help protect others in the community.

Why Get a Flu Vaccine?

  • Helps prevent serious illness and hospitalisation
  • Reduces spread of flu to vulnerable people
  • Safe and effective — you cannot get flu from the vaccine
  • Recommended annually before flu viruses start circulating

Which Flu Vaccines Are Available at Our Clinic

We offer several vaccine options for 2026:

Government-Funded (FREE): Under the National Immunisation Program (NIP), eligible patients receive their flu vaccine at no cost.

Private Vaccines – $25

  • Cell-based influenza vaccine – $25
  • High-Dose influenza vaccine (65+) – available privately for older adults

You do not need to choose a vaccine before booking. Your GP or nurse will recommend the best option during your visit.

Who Is Eligible for a Free Flu Vaccine?

The influenza vaccine is free under the NIP for:

  • Children 6 months to under 5 years
  • Pregnant women (any stage of pregnancy)
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over
  • People 65 years and older
  • People aged 6 months and over with certain medical risk conditions

Medical Risk Conditions Include:

  • Cardiac disease
  • Chronic respiratory conditions
  • Immunocompromised individuals
  • Diabetes and metabolic disorders
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • Haematological disorders
  • Chronic neurological conditions
  • Children aged 5–10 years on long-term aspirin therapy

Not sure if you’re eligible? Ask your GP or nurse — we’re here to help.

Special Notes for Children

  • Children aged 6 months to under 9 years receiving their first flu vaccination need two doses, at least 4 weeks apart.
  • After their first year, only one annual dose is needed.

Vaccines for Older Adults

If you are 65 years or older, you are eligible for a government-funded vaccine specifically designed to give stronger protection.

We also offer high-dose influenza vaccines privately for enhanced immune response.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get other vaccines at the same time?

Yes — you can safely have your flu vaccine at the same visit as:

  • COVID-19 vaccine
  • RSV vaccine
  • Shingles (herpes zoster) vaccine
  • Pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine

What about allergies?

The vaccines we use are suitable for most people. If you have a history of severe allergic reactions, please let us know so we can advise you.

Can the vaccine give me the flu?

No. The flu vaccine contains inactivated virus and cannot cause influenza.

When should I get vaccinated?

We recommend vaccination before flu season begins, from April 2026 onward. Even if you had the vaccine late last year, you should still receive the 2026 vaccine.
