Medicare Healthy Kids Check: New 3-Year-Old Health Check
A new Medicare Healthy Kids Check is available for eligible 3-year-olds from 1 November 2026.
The new Medicare Healthy Kids Check provides an opportunity to support a child’s health, development and wellbeing during an important stage of early childhood.
The check allows parents and carers to talk with a GP about their child’s development, health and any questions or concerns they may have.
What is a 3-year-old health check?
The Medicare Healthy Kids Check is a health and development assessment for eligible Medicare-eligible children aged 3.
During the appointment, the GP may discuss areas such as:
- Development and milestones
- Growth, including height and weight
- Hearing and eyesight
- Oral health
- Nutrition and physical activity
- Sleep
- Emotional and social wellbeing
- Family and early childhood experiences
The check can help identify whether a child may benefit from additional support, monitoring or referral for further assessment.
It is also an opportunity for parents and carers to raise any questions or concerns about their child’s health, development or wellbeing with the GP.
A reminder to check vaccinations
A child’s health check is also a good opportunity to make sure their childhood vaccinations are up to date.
If you’re unsure whether your child is due for any vaccinations, speak with the clinic team or GP. They can help check your child’s immunisation record and discuss any vaccinations that may be recommended.
Who can access the Medicare Healthy Kids Check?
The Medicare Healthy Kids Check is available once per child for eligible Medicare-eligible 3-year-olds.
Parents and carers can call the clinic to book a Medicare Healthy Kids Check with a GP.
